Faecal Occult Blood

A fecal occult blood test (FOBT) is a laboratory test used to detect hidden blood in the stool, which may be a sign of gastrointestinal bleeding. It is typically done as a screening test for colon cancer and other gastrointestinal disorders. The test involves collecting a small sample of stool and sending it to a lab for analysis. FOBT may be done using a chemical method or an immunological method. The chemical method involves placing a small amount of stool on a test card and applying a developer solution to the card. If there is blood in the stool, the solution causes a color change on the card. The immunological method uses antibodies to detect the presence of human blood in the stool.
